Getting to Watch a Space Shuttle Launch Up Close

I recently had an opportunity to spend two days at Kennedy Space Center and observe the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis.

I was invited as part of a group of 150 Twitter users to spend two full days (13 and 14 May 2010) at NASA with briefs, VIP tours and access that culminated with us observing Atlantis launch on Friday afternoon at 2:20 PM from the historic press site here where the famous count down clock and flag are located.

Words can not describe the experience adequately.  Watching the shuttle launch from just 3 miles away is unreal. It vibrates through your body and the flames are so bright it is almost like looking at the sun.

Here are two videos. One is of the actual launch itself and is in HD.  The other video is a montage of the over 300 photos I took put to some music and mission audio. I am also including some of the photos as pictures with a link to the flickr photo album so you can see everything. Enjoy.
